Beauty and the Beast

"The Pig King" and "The Enchanted Frog" are the two stories I want to focus on. Both stories had the same premise when the 'beast' revealed themselves because both of the characters, accepting the beasts hand in marriage, embraced the beasts for who they were. In "The Pig King", the youngest daughter of the poor woman accepted the King before she found out that he had on pig's hide, withholding his true identity. Eventually, the Pig King revealed himself because he felt that he could trust her.
In "The Enchanted Frog", the youngest son was the only one that spread his cape for the frog to jump in. Later on in the story when the frog told him to throw her in the water, he "...was very sad because he didn't think he would never see his frog again." In both tales, the young son and daughter didn't care what the 'beast' looked like because they were more concerned with what was on the inside. The difference in endings between the two is that even though the daughter in "The Pig King" told the king's secret, there was still a happy ending. In "The Enchanted Frog", the end was comical because the other son's wives copied everything the princess did and ended up making fools of themselves. My favorite story out of the two was "The Pig King" because it was like the original Beauty and the Beast, where the younger, more beautiful daughter was more accepting of the beasts looks and saw them for who they really were. It's good that stories include that you "shouldn't judge a book by its cover" premise to them because it may help people actually believe in it.
